Growing strawberries is nothing new, but there are many different techniques for growing them that some people may have not ever considered before. Many who have never tried growing these red berries before may think it would be difficult have found it can actually be quite easy if you grow them the right way!
The most important thing is to consider what type of seeds to use. Everbearing strawberries are always a favorite, as these tend to yield a crop more than once. Growing them indoors means you’ll even be able to manipulate the seasons so your plant may flower more often. Strawberries only require two things to grow well, 6-8 hours of sunlight, and plenty of water. When you remember a few tips for growing strawberries the rest is pretty easy from there!
One of the most popular methods is what is known as container gardening. The choices for different types of containers are many, and your only real limit is your imagination. Whether you choose growing strawberries in hanging baskets or another type of container, you can still get good and consistent results.
An upside down container, sometimes called a “topsy turvy planter” is another creative method of growing strawberries. You can either make your own from a plastic soda bottle or find them at just about any home and garden center. With this method of growing, the plants are suspended in the air upside down. Another type of gardening that is slightly unusual is called lasagna garden. This unique type of growing makes it so you do not have the need for digging up the dirt or fertiling it, since it creates its own rich topsoil. This environmentally friendly method of gardening requires layering boxes and compost on the ground. Lasagna gardening is preferred by many organic gardeners, since it makes it easier to grow your plants without using dangerous lawn chemicals.
